What is it that makes a person’s character unique? Are we molded by our experiences, that in turn makes us think the way we do, and if so, could we choose to ‘be’ someone else entirely? Are we still the same person if we loose all our memories? Or is our being written into our cellular structure, as if it were ‘set in stone’? I believe in change. Memories to me are merely that, fragments of my mind that from a certain moment in time my senses have recorded and stored like databanks in a computer server hub. It’s like I’m questioning my very destiny. Every experience has lead me to think a particular thought which has placed me here. I can’t help but feel I have no choice, that everything I do is predetermined according to past events. Even logic, as prevailing as it is to overcome emotion and better make judgements, seems to be at a loss when it comes to ‘choosing’ my own destiny. The idea of introducing chance was something I thought would break the cycle, but the thought of leaving decisions up to the flip of a coin seems illogical because even though it is unbiased, I would still not be in complete control of my own decision making. Perhaps in that case, control is merely an illusion, as is free will. This is most conflicting, and I don’t think I will ever make up my mind. Maybe I should trouble my mind with this another day and finish drinking my tea.
